Oceanside Boy Dies in Accidental Shooting
A 9-year-old Oceanside boy died after being shot in the head while he and another boy played with a rifle, police said Saturday.
The victim was identified as Paul Alexander Martinez Jr.
He and friend were playing with a .22-caliber rifle in the back bedroom of an Oceanside residence when the firearm went off at 7:28 p.m. Friday, authorities said. The victim was taken to Children’s Hospital in San Diego, where he was declared dead at 11:33 p.m. Friday.
Oceanside police said the shooting was an accident.
