Dispute on Hotel Tab Brings Arrest of Theft Suspects

PALATINE, Ill. —
A man and woman who refused to pay a hotel bill were jailed Friday on charges of robbing a Milwaukee bank.
The two were arrested after police found a bag containing “a substantial amount” of money, some of it tainted with a red dye banks use to identify stolen money.
Karen Ray and Rufus Patterson had refused to pay their bill at the Quality Inn, so employees called police.
