The curtain rises for Broadway’s best at the 43rd annual presentation of “The Tony Awards” Sunday at 9 p.m. on CBS (Channels 2 and 8).
For the third year in a row, four-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury will preside over the event recognizing theatrical achievement.
The cover features five of the productions nominated for top honors. Clockwise from upper left, they are: Bill Irwin in “Largely New York”; Pauline Collins in “Shirley Valentine”; Gabriel Barre, left, and Brian Lane Green in “Starmites”; Joan Allen in “The Heidi Chronicles,” and Philip Bosco and Jane Connell in “Lend Me a Tenor.”
With the exception of “Starmites,” a nominee for best musical along with “Black and Blue” and “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway,” the productions have been nominated for best play.
