SACRAMENTO —
Gov. George Deukmejian on Wednesday ordered flags lowered to half-staff today at all state buildings throughout California in memory of the civilians slain in China’s civil unrest.
The flag over the state Capitol was lowered to half-staff at noon Wednesday, and it will remain at half-staff today.
Deukmejian spokesman Tom Beermann said the order was issued in response to suggestions by Secretary of State March Fong Eu, California’s highest ranking official of Chinese ancestry, and others.
