San Diego and New Zealand yacht clubs...

San Diego and New Zealand yacht clubs will resume their battle today for the America’s Cup in a New York State appeals court.

The San Diego Yacht Club will argue that Justice Carmen Ciparick was wrong in ordering it to forfeit the trophy, while the Mercury Bay Boating Club of Auckland will say that she was right to disqualify the Californians for sailing a catamaran against a monohull.

At stake is the prestige of holding the trophy and the financial reward of staging the America’s Cup. San Diego hoped to earn as much as $2 billion in revenues as host of the next race series, now set for New Zealand in 1992.
