Gang Member Faces Life for Shootings
A gang member faces three life prison terms for his conviction in a shooting incident in which three people were wounded, including one victim whose leg had to be amputated, prosecutors said Friday.
Richard Brooks, 23, was found guilty late Thursday of three counts each of first-degree attempted murder and committing a drive-by shooting and one count of mayhem.
He is scheduled to be sentenced June 22 to three life prison terms plus five years.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Walls said Brooks and another suspect, who is still at large, carried out three drive-by shootings Aug. 16 in South-Central Los Angeles.
Walls said the two drove by a residence at 251 W. 122nd St. and fired at two people, striking one, Vincent Willis, 34, in the leg. Willis’ leg was amputated as a result of his wound.
Twenty minutes later, Brooks fired another round of shots at Randall Posten, 27, who was standing in front of his mother’s house. Posten, who was struck in the chest, recovered after surgery.
