P.M. BRIEFING : Apple Unveils Data Translator Links
From Times wire services
NEW YORK — Apple Computer Inc. introduced more than a dozen products today designed to extend links from its Macintosh desktop computers to a wider group of midrange and mainframe computers, including those made by IBM.
The products will reduce the difficulty and cost of exchanging data between Apple’s popular Macintosh machines and otherwise incompatible machines, analysts said.
Earlier this spring, Apple said it had reached agreement for similar links to Digital Equipment Corp. computers and the new products have been widely expected.
Donald Casey, Apple vice president of networking and communications, said the products provide greater communication with other major computer environments.
