McDonnell Douglas Gets 4 Big Orders: McDonnell Douglas said it has received orders and commitments from four airlines for a total of 60 new MD-80 twin-jets. Alitalia, of Italy, one of the largest MD-80 operators in the world, placed 25 orders and 25 options, McDonnell Douglas said. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 1993 and continue through 1997. Minerve, a charter airline based in Paris, took options on two MD-83s, scheduled for 1994 delivery. Transwede, of Sweden, made two options firm and took options on an additional four MD-83s. Also, Paris-based Air Liberte placed two orders for MD-83s, with delivery scheduled in March, 1991.
