From Times wire services

The Vietnamese government has informed the United States it will return next week the remains of what it believes are 28 American servicemen missing from the Vietnam War, the Pentagon said today.

Spokesman Pete Williams said the transfer of the remains would occur Wednesday, with a team of U.S. military officials flying to Hanoi. The remains will be flown to an Army laboratory in Hawaii for possible identification, he said.

The repatriation will be the 10th since August, 1987, when the United States made a special effort to enlist greater assistance from Vietnam in accounting for missing Americans.
