Times Mirror Acquires Magazine Group: Times Mirror Magazines, a unit of Los Angeles-based Times Mirror Co., has acquired Sports Marketing Group, which publishes golf magazines and guides. Times Mirror Magazines publishes sports and special-interest magazines, including Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Popular Science and Home Mechanix. Sports Marketing publishes a number of golf tournament magazines, including the U.S. Open magazine and the Television Viewers Guide to the Grand Slam. Sports Marketing was owned by Ian Martin Davis, who will stay on as president, publisher and editor. The sale price was not disclosed.
