Film Producer Mirisch to Receive UCLA Medal
Film producer Walter Mirisch will be honored today with the UCLA Medal at the university’s College of Fine Arts commencement ceremony in Royce Hall at 3 p.m. The president of the Mirisch Corp. will be presented UCLA’s highest honor, according to acting dean Bernard Kester. The company produced three Oscar-winning films of the 1960s, “The Apartment,” “West Side Story,” and “In the Heat of the Night.” His company also made “Some Like It Hot,” “The Magnificent Seven,” “The Great Escape,” “The Pink Panther” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Mirisch’s other honors include the Irving G. Thalberg Award and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
