What’s Tina Turner doing pitching Plymouths in those very straight TV spots (no sexy music, no wild clothes)? Her rep tells us that since Tina’s retired from live performing, she’s “exploring other avenues” for income. “It’s not as if she’s selling a product that’s potentially bad for anyone, like alcohol or something, which some artists have done,” the rep stressed.
But does the sultry, soul-rock singer--whose new album, “Foreign Affair,” is due out in September--really drive a Plymouth ?
“Part of the original idea was to give her a couple of cars,” explained her spokesman. “But she lives in London now. They really don’t have many Plymouths over there.” (That means no.)
The commercials are only appearing in California, on a test basis. They’ll be reviewed later this year when ad execs will decide if Tina has the stuff as a national pitchperson.
