Henderson Says He Won’t Go to Giants

Rickey Henderson said Sunday he will not accept a rumored trade to the San Francisco Giants, and general manager Bob Quinn of the New York Yankees said it isn’t likely to happen.

The New York Daily News reported that Henderson, eligible for free agency at the end of the season, would go to the Giants for outfielder Candy Maldonado and right-handed pitcher Scott Garrelts.

Henderson has a clause in his contract giving him the right to refuse any deal.

“I’m not going to Candlestick,” Henderson said after the Yankees lost to Texas on Sunday.

Henderson said that the Yankees have agreed to his request for a three-year contract, but the financial terms are still unsettled. Henderson wants about $8.6 million for the three years. He has given the Yankees until the All-Star break to finish the negotiations.
