El Senor rallied wide through the stretch and registered a hard-fought victory by a neck over Coeur de Lion in the $241,600 Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.
El Senor, ridden by Herb McCauley, carried 117 pounds over 1 3/8 miles on the Inner Turf Course in 2:18 3/5 to pick up his second victory in five starts this year. Coeur de Lion, with 121 and Jean Cruguet, was 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Pay the Butler, 116 and Robbie Davis.
El Senor earned $144,960 for Frances W. Luro and returned $7.60 ,$3.60 and $2.80. Coeur de Lion paid $5.80 and $3, while Pay the Butler returned $3.40.
