SCIENCE / TECHNOLOGY : AST’s Full Line of Computers Will Be Sold at Sears Business Systems Centers
AST Research Inc. said it has signed an agreement with Sears to sell AST’s personal computers at Sears stores.
The Irvine computer maker said Sears will carry AST’s full line of computers and related products at its 59 Business Systems Centers in the United States. Previously, Sears has sold AST’s add-on board products that are used to boost the performance of personal computers.
“This is a very significant step,” said Jim Ashbrook, AST’s senior vice president of marketing. “It gives us a lot more outlets” among the major computer retail chains.
AST provided no financial details of the agreement.
“The contract designates sales targets, but that information is confidential between the companies,” Ashbrook said.
In the past year, AST has signed distribution agreements with several major computer chains, including ComputerLand Corp., MicroAge Computer Stores Inc. and Entre Computer Centers.
