NATION : Panel OKs Ex-Bush Aide as Envoy After Grilling on Iran-Contra Role

WASHINGTON — The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted today to recommend confirmation of Donald Gregg, a former high aide to then-Vice President George Bush, as ambassador to South Korea.
The vote followed two hearings at which Gregg was grilled about what he and Bush might have known about supply of weapons to the U.S.-backed contra rebels at a time when it was banned by Congress.
