From Times wire services

Chrysler Motors Corp. today announced its entire U.S.-built lineup, plus one import, will be equipped with driver’s side air bags for the 1990 model year.

The supplemental restraint system will be standard without exception and will range from the top-of-the-line Chrysler Imperial through the low-end vehicles, the Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon, Chrysler said.

About 1 million vehicles will be involved, Chrysler said.

Chrysler introduced driver’s side air bags as standard equipment on six car lines late in the 1988 model year. By the end of the 1989 model year, the company estimates it already will have produced more than 250,000 cars with the safety device.
