The Mark Taper Forum will receive one of the five grants from the Fund for New American Plays this year for its production of Arthur Kopit’s “Discovery of America,” scheduled for July, 1990. The grant consists of $90,000 for the production, the highest amount awarded for a single play this year, and $10,000 for Kopit. The Fund is a joint project of the Kennedy Center in Washington, American Express and the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. More than 120 theaters applied for this year’s grants.
