The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International fund-raising dinner on May 16 at Benihana Beverly Hills netted $10,000. The money will be used for diabetes research.

“Beisbol Nicaragua” on May 20 at the Brentwood Youth House netted $1,932. The event was initiated by Diplomacy, Inc.--Bats Not Bombs, an organization dedicated to finding new ways to interact with Central and Latin American countries. The money will be used to help send its 25-member USA All-Star team to Managua, Nicaragua in July.

The Navidad en el Barrio benefit dinner on May 25 at the Sheraton Grande Hotel netted $39,382. The money will be used for deposits on the food and toys the organization will purchase to bring Christmas to 20,000 Southern California families.

The B’nai Zion Foundation and the American Friends of the B’nai Zion Medical Center benefit dinner on May 23 at the Beverly Hills Hotel netted $32,000, with $5,000 donated by the Milken Family Medical Foundation. The money will go to the “Dr. Judith A. Resnik/Challenger” Memorial Rehabilitative Gymnasium at the BZMC in Haifa, Israel. Margaret Novak produced the event.

The 8th annual “Night for Sight Dinner” for the Center for the Partially Sighted on June 2 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel netted an estimated $167,000. Dwight Hemion and William Elliott were co-chairs.

The Southern California Counseling Center at its annual dinner/dance and auction at the Regent Beverly Wilshire on June 3 netted more than $43,000 for the center’s low-cost mental health services. Susan and Royle Freund co-chaired.

The 8th annual Achievement Awards Dinner of Alternative Living for the Aging on June 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel netted $65,000, which will enable ALA to continue to create housing alternatives for the elderly.
