Vice President Dan Quayle, trying to revive the Bush Administration’s embattled legislation to provide military aid for non-Communist rebels in Cambodia, said that opponents of the measure are haunted by “the ghost of Vietnam.” The Administration wants to provide up to $30-million worth of weapons and other military assistance to Cambodian rebel factions led by Prince Norodom Sihanouk and former Prime Minister Son Sann. “No great nation can long afford to be paralyzed by a memory,” Quayle said in a speech to the conservative Heritage Foundation. “We must not permit the non-Communist resistance in Cambodia to become the last casualty of the Vietnam War.”
