Early reports from Warner Bros. indicate that “Batman” may have winged its way to the top of the heap of this summer’s blockbusters and has broken records for the biggest opening weekend in history. On Friday, the movie garnered about $15.6 million in ticket sales (which includes the $2.2 million made on a preview Thursday night). Saturday’s ticket sales reached $14.5 million while the projected gross for Sunday was $12.2 million. The projected weekend total for the movie, which cost $30 million to make and stars Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson and Kim Basinger, was $42.3 million, well ahead of last week’s record-breaking debut of “Ghostbusters II,” which made $29.5 million in ticket sales its first three days. “We understand house records have just been toppling all over the country,” said Warner Bros. spokesman Michael Singer. “Without a question, we’ve had the biggest opening in movie history.”
