A state legislative conference committee has approved restoration of a $3-million cut proposed by Gov. George Deukmejian for the $15.6-million budget of the California Arts Council. The joint committee also voted to add $2 million to the state agency’s grants budget, thereby recommending that Deukmejian allot $17.6 million total. The governor is expected to sign the entire state budget into law within the next few weeks.
