Raub Quits as Chorale Conductor at Orange Coast After 19 Years

After 19 years at the job, Richard Raub is stepping down as conductor of the Orange Coast (College) Chorale. However, he will continue to conduct the Orange Coast Singers, a smaller ensemble, and will remain as a full-time voice and choral instructor at the Costa Mesa college.

Raub, who will be out of town until mid-July, could not be reached for comment. His resignation was confirmed Monday by Ted Baker, OCC’s dean of fine arts.

Baker said Raub will conduct four concerts with the Orange Coast Singers: a Haydn program Oct. 21 at the college; a program of seasonal favorites Dec. 17 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tustin; a Bach program March 10, 1990, at the college, and a program to be announced May 5 at St. Paul’s.

Taking over the chorale will be Ted Reid, who will conduct a program of Bach, Brahms and Vaughan Williams, plus seasonal selections, on Dec. 9; and Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” on May 19.

Reid will teach the course “Masterworks Chorale,” from which the membership of the Orange Coast Chorale is drawn, next year at the college, according to Baker. Classes will begin the week of Aug. 21.
