Suspect in Bank Heists Held in Utah

A U.S. magistrate refused Monday to release a Colorado man suspected of being “the baby-faced bank robber” profiled on a national crime television program and suspected in a number of Los Angeles bank robberies.

Magistrate Calvin Gould in Salt Lake City ordered David Lee Martin, 24, held without bond on charges he robbed a First Interstate Bank branch in that city.

Prosecutors had argued that Martin should not be allowed to post bail because he also is a suspect in Denver and Los Angeles bank robberies and because a federal grand jury in San Diego was expected to indict the suspect today in connection with another holdup.

Martin also is wanted in California and Colorado for “more than 10 other bank robberies,” said FBI spokesman James Screen.

Federal prosecutor Tena Campbell said the slender, 5-foot-10 Martin is believed to be the youthful bank robbery suspect depicted recently on the “America’s Most Wanted” weekly TV show.
