Senators Unanimously Approve 10% Raise for State Legislators

Share

The Senate, without debate, voted unanimously Monday to give members of the Legislature a 10% pay raise from $40,816 a year to $44,898, effective Dec. 3, 1990.

In addition to their annual salaries, senators receive an average of $17,500 a year in tax-free per diem. They are also provided leased vehicles, free gasoline, telephone credit cards, pensions and life and medical insurance.

Lawmakers, who last voted themselves a pay raise two years ago, generally approve pay increases that cover a two-year period. Under the state Constitution, legislative pay raises are limited to 5% a year.
