NATION : 9 in N.Y. Crime Family Found Guilty

From Times Wire Services

A federal court jury today found nine defendants in a racketeering case involving the Gambino crime family guilty on all counts including murder, narcotics, loan sharking and pornography.

The verdict came after a 15-month trial, one of the longest mob trials in history, before Judge Vincent Broderick in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The six-man, six-woman jury had been deliberating since June 14.

U.S. Atty. Walter S. Mack Jr. had linked the defendants to 20 murders and there was testimony from some of the 200 witnesses about 18 murders. Five of the seven defendants who were charged with racketeering also were charged with taking part in 11 murders. Sentencing was set for Sept. 13.
