The House Armed Services Committee today approved an additional $300 million for the Department of Energy to clean up toxic and radioactive wastes at nuclear weapons sites.

The House panel, on its second day of drafting a defense budget, also accepted an amendment requiring the Bush Administration to certify that safety standards for the withdrawal of chemical stockpiles in Europe be met before $36.6 million can be spent.
