A federal judge in Denver ordered a special federal grand jury impaneled to investigate alleged criminal activity at the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant. There are two regular grand juries in Colorado, but U.S. District Judge Sherman Finesilver said a special one should be called Aug. 1 because “there is a possibility of a lengthy investigation.” FBI and Environmental Protection Agency investigators raided Rocky Flats on June 6 looking for evidence of criminal environmental violations.
