The Athletics Congress suspended for three months race walker Alan Price of Washington, for testing positive for banned over-the-counter drugs. Price, 42, tested positive in a sample taken at the U.S. 50-Kilometer Walk Championships March 5 at Atlanta, where he finished 12th. The substances found--ephedrine, pseudoephedrine and phenylpropanolamine--are commonly used in cold remedies and eye drops but are banned under the rules of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, the world governing body for track and field.
Price has won 10 national titles, including 100-kilometer championships in 1979, 1981 and 1984, and 100-mile titles in 1978-79, 1981, 1983-84-85 and 1987.
