Rene Wiegert; Musical Director of Broadway Hits
Rene Wiegert, 59, the original musical director of “Cats” and other hit Broadway shows. Before his retirement in 1986, Wiegert also was the musical director of “Evita,” “Pippin,” “The Boys From Syracuse,” “Oh Coward” and “Different Times,” as well as revivals of “Oklahoma” and “South Pacific.” Wiegert, a classically trained musician, had appeared with symphony orchestras across the country. He was a 1951 graduate of the Juilliard School. In Goshen, N.Y., on Monday of unreported causes.
