National Football League owners will meet next Thursday in Chicago to elect a commissioner.
The owners will be voting on a successor to Pete Rozelle, who announced his resignation March 22 but has stayed on pending the election of his successor. Rozelle has been commissioner since January 1960.
Among the top candidates are Jim Finks, president and general manager of the New Orleans Saints, and NFL counsel Paul Tagliabue.
