Rain from Tropical Storm Allison continued to fall over much of the South and Southwest, although precipitation from the slow-moving storm eased in flood-ravaged Wast Texas. Remnants of the storm caused widespread flooding. the gorged Trinity River inundated subdivisions in two West Texas counties and hundreds of Mississippi and Louisiana residents were forced from their homes. In Louisiana, which has received up to 26 inches of rain in the last five days, residents of a lake Charles subdivision shot at alligators and water moccasins swimming through six-foot-deep water around their houses.
