North Sea Oil Workers Strike: Workers on a North Sea oil platform went on strike to protest safety measures nearly a year after a blaze killed 167 men on the Piper Alpha platform. Thousands more offshore workers on all 135 North Sea platforms are expected to stop work Thursday, the anniversary of the Piper Alpha explosion.
