Abbott Selected Angel of the Week

Jim Abbott, who beat the Texas Rangers and the Minnesota Twins to improve his record to 8-5, is The Times’ Orange County Edition Angel of the Week. Abbott is the winningest rookie pitcher to have made his debut in the majors without the benefit of minor league experience since the adoption of the amateur draft in 1965.

The Times will donate $200 in Abbott’s name to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Orange County.
