McGraw-Hill Inc. said today it has bought Mountain View, Calif.-based Tech Valley Publishing, including UnixWorld magazine, for an undisclosed cash sum.

UnixWorld, a monthly magazine geared for users of Unix, a growing computer operating system for mainframes and personal computers, will become part of McGraw-Hill’s computers and communications group, the company said. Joseph L. Dionne, McGraw-Hill chairman, said the acquisition will give the company “an immediate, market-leading presence in this market segment.”

McGraw-Hill also publishes BYTE magazine for the personal computing market.
