Ailing “Nightline” anchor Ted Koppel, who hasn’t been on the air since anchoring an ABC China special on June 27, remained at home in bed Wednesday, still recuperating from an inflammation of the trachea. “He’s in good condition but still not 100%,” a spokeswoman for his program said. Various ABC staffers have been filling in for him on “Nightline,” with Sam Donaldson his substitute Wednesday night. It isn’t certain when Koppel will return to work, the spokeswoman said: “We don’t know. We’ll take it day by day.” He had hoped to return to work last Monday night.
