P.M. BRIEFING : Pate Sales Halted for Listeria Check
Belgium today suspended exports of a brand of pate produced by Nestle and health inspectors are checking it for excessive amounts of listeria bacteria.
A Health Ministry spokesman said British health authorities had alerted Brussels Wednesday that listeria had been found in certain Belgian pates, which have the brand name “Sans Pareil.” Listeria is a bacteria present in a number of pates and cheeses, but above certain levels it can be harmful, particularly for pregnant women, children and people with weak immune systems.
