President Augusto Pinochet’s former finance minister is re-entering Chile’s presidential race, dividing the right into two camps. Former Finance Minister Hernan Buchi told a rally in Santiago that he has changed his mind since announcing in May that he would not be a candidate. Gen. Pinochet, 73, cannot be a candidate because voters have turned down his request for a new term. Buchi’s re-entry into the Dec. 14 election as a National Renovation party candidate complicates the political picture on the right. The party’s president, Sergio Onofre Jarpa, also is running in the election.
