The Wellness Community-South Bay Cities’ Founders Dinner on June 4 at the Manhattan Country Club in Manhattan Beach netted more than $20,000 for the cancer recovery support program. The event was underwritten by Jacquelin Gorman and Kenneth Slutsky. Dr. Donald Salk and Robert Sharples were co-chairs.

The Los Angeles/Orange Counties Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation held its “Silhouette” sixth annual Celebrity Fashion Show with dinner and dancing on June 10 at the Sheraton Universal and netted $30,000. Joanne Reeves and Sue Emerson were co-chairs.

KCET Women’s Council 25th Anniversary Gala held at the Beverly Hilton on June 14 netted $200,000 for public television programming on Channel 28. The event was hosted by Gregory Peck. Lou Rawls was master of ceremonies. Aimee Walker was chairman.

The premiere screening of “Batman,” which included lunch and a surprise auction on June 25 at the Lorimar Studios, netted $150,000 to benefit the Neil Bogart Memorial Laboratories for Children’s Cancer and AIDS research. The event was hosted by Christine Forsyth-Peters and Lynda Guber.

On June 29, the Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital Guild presented Daniel Freeman Hospitals and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet with a donation of $328,000 from the 1988-1989 fiscal years’ fund-raising activities.

The Los Angeles Men’s ORT third annual “Evening Under the Stars” at the Hollywood Bowl on July 7 presented “The Magic of Mozart” by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, along with a gourmet meal, wine and dessert, netting an estimated $65,000 for ORT’s worldwide network of vocational training.

The premiere screening of “Licence to Kill,” hosted by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts on July 10, netted approximately $100,000. At the black-tie dinner that followed at the Bel Age Hotel, the honoree, producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, announced that 20% of that amount would go to the Motion Picture and Television Fund. BAFTA-LA will receive the remainder.
