DEATHS : Irwin Comp of Packers Fame Dies
Irvin H. Comp, a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, has died at age 70. A native of Milwaukee, he played quarterback and defensive back for the Packers from 1943 through 1949. Comp was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1986. He died Tuesday.
Comp won 12 letters at St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, Kan. The Packers made him their second-round draft choice.
Comp was the quarterback on the 1944 team that beat the New York Giants 14-7 for the team’s sixth championship.
