Rudolf Nureyev will star in “The King and I” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center Dec. 5 to 10 and at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood Dec. 26 to Jan. 7, according to tentative plans outlined by producer Manny Kladitis. The show is scheduled to open in Toronto in September. Nureyev has never sung in public before, but Kladitis noted that the role of the King doesn’t require much singing. Orange County Performing Arts Center officials declined to comment on “The King.” But it already has been offered as a bonus attraction to Los Angeles Civic Light Opera subscribers.
