Ropak Corp. of Fullerton said it has purchased part of National Testing Corp., a Palm Springs company that sells an advanced test for checking product safety. Ropak paid $500,000 for a 20% interest in the firm and marketing rights to National Testing’s Eyetex kit. The kit is used by the Federal Drug Administration and cosmetics firms to measure how much a product irritates eye tissue. Unlike many test systems, Eyetex does not use live animals. National Testing is developing a similar product that will test skin irritation. The purchase of National Testing will provide some diversification for Ropak, a public company that manufactures plastic packaging, Ropak Chairman William Roper said. National Testing was founded by Christopher Kelly of Newport Beach. Kelly said he owns the remaining 80% of the company.
