Anacomp Cutting Staff: Indianapolis-based Anacomp Inc. has cut 172 workers from its staff of 1,100 at a Santa Clara, Calif., computer disk plant in a continuing effort to consolidate its operations, company spokeswoman Jo KeKee said. “The reduction was necessary to compete more competitively in the marketplace,” she said. The facility manufactures a rigid computer disk with an oxide coating. “There’s a move in the marketplace to alternate technologies in rigid disk technology away from the oxide disk,” McKee said. “There has been some movement toward the new technology. This is just a continuation of what we have been doing.”
