Brunswick to Cut Jobs: Brunswick Corp. says it will cut the jobs of 4,000 workers--about 20% of its employees--from its troubled marine operations because of a sharp drop in demand for pleasure boats and engines. Workers will be laid off at more than 30 plants in 28 states, Brunswick said, announcing an expected 75% plunge in second-quarter earnings from record results of $68.3 million in the same quarter a year earlier. The biggest cuts will be at the Skokie, Ill.-based company’s largest facility, a Mercury Marine engine plant in Fond du Lac, Wis., where 300 workers will be let go, the company said. About 300 were laid off there earlier this year.
