THE SIDELINES : McGee Goes Back on Disabled List
Injury-prone St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Willie McGee, sidelined with a pulled left hamstring, went back on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.
McGee suffered the injury Tuesday while running out a ground ball. He lasted only eight games in the lineup after recovering from a sprained left wrist that sidelined him from June 4 to July 18. McGee also missed most of the first month of the season with rib-cage muscle irritation.
“It’s a shame,” Cardinals Manager Whitey Herzog said. “He wanted to play. He’s going to miss 100 games.”
McGee’s spot on the roster will be taken by left-hander Rick Horton, who has been pitching at the Cardinals’ Triple A Louisville affiliate since being signed as a free agent last week.
