Sprinter Ben Johnson said he would like to compete for Jamaica in the 1992 Olympic Games, the Jamaica Record reported Saturday.

“If I am clean, I should be able to run for Jamaica because I am a Jamaican,” the newspaper quoted Johnson as saying during a visit to the island.

However, Teddy McCook, president of the Jamaica Athletic Assn., has told reporters that no athlete found guilty of using banned substances will be allowed to compete for Jamaica.

Johnson, who recently testified before a Canadian inquiry on drug abuse in sports, has admitted using banned substances during his athletic career.
