One Man’s Treasure Is Another Man’s Etc.: Seven metal sculptures, representing one year’s labor by artist Denis O’Connor, were sold as scrap for $16 by his landlord while he was on vacation, the artist told a civil court hearing this week in Derby, England. A Public Arts Commission official valued the works at up to $10,400. They included images of a bird and a train. The landlord, who said he thought the sculptures were junk, was ordered to pay O’Connor $6,900 damages and interest plus legal costs. O’Connor, also a college lecturer, has sold more than 400 works.
