A 3-month-old girl critically injured in a Santa Ana traffic accident died Thursday night, becoming the second person to die in the head-on crash of two pickup trucks, police said today.

Police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said the infant died of head and internal injuries at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The baby’s name could not be released, she said.

The child was injured in an accident near downtown Santa Ana late Wednesday. An unrelated 44-year-old woman who was riding in the same truck was killed.

Police said a suspected drunk driver crossed a center line and crashed his pickup truck head-on into the truck carrying the woman and the baby. The woman’s husband and another child were not seriously injured, police said.

Thomas said Efram Jiminez Cruz, 21, of Santa Ana has been charged with manslaughter. She said Jiminez is also suspected of driving under the influence when the crash occurred at Main and Bishop streets.

The impact caused one pickup to overturn and come to rest in front of a furniture store on Main Street, police said.
