Statehood for Washington, D.C.

Share

Jackson’s proposal to give statehood to 650,000 people in the District of Columbia would add insult to long-standing injury. We have for too much of that already. I’m referring to big states like California, with big cities, with 26 million people and only two senators compared to Alaska with less than one-half million, Hawaii with not quite a million and many others who are grossly overrepresented in the Senate.

In other words, one person in Alaska has 50 times the “clout” in the Senate as one Californian.
