South Korea said today that it will not reopen talks with North Korea on sending a joint team to the 1990 Beijing Asian Games unless Pyongyang stops hostile propaganda against the south.

“Talks can only resume when North Korea proves it has stopped all political machinations to agitate the south,” Seoul’s chief delegate Chang Chung-sik said in response to an offer by Pyongyang on Tuesday to reopen the talks.

The two Koreas, still technically at war, have agreed in principle to field a single team to the Beijing Games but have a host of details to fix.
